SUMMARY

Winter sports in the Republic of Moldova (skiing, luge) developed unevenly since the early 2000s. Certain successes were affiliated with the nationalized athletes' performances as well as the local talented youth (especially in the 2020s).

The main obstacles in sports development are the lack of relevant infrastructure, climatic peculiarities, expensive equipment, and insufficient state funding of sports. At the same time, the development potential of these sports as well as the EU integration processes in the Republic of Moldova can speak of the favorable circumstances for their growth.

The main goal, led by the Association, is organizing the enthusiasts interested in the development and popularization of winter sports in the Republic of Moldova. Providing a competitive environment is only possible with mass children and youth involvement in sports.  Undoubtedly, this presupposes that qualified coaches exist and remains one of the problematic issues for winter sports development in Moldova.

At the same time, one of the major Association’s objectives is to create an appropriate sports infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova. That could encourage the development of the sport and significantly ensure its progress.
